Oquirrh Times Photo Contest
The Oquirrh Times is holding a monthly photo contest It's a fun contest where local photographers can share their photographs, see other's photographs, and gain recognition for their efforts.
Once a month a winner will be announced and their photograph will be published in the Oquirrh Times newspaper. A gift certificate from a local business will be given to the winner.
Contest Rules
Age of Photographer
To enter, the photographer must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident with a green card.
Age of photograph
All photo's must have been taken in Utah in the last three years.
Number of Entries
An individual may submit only one photograph per month. Once a photograph has been entered it cannot be entered again regardless if it was chosen as a winner or not.
Professional or Amateur
We are accepting submissions from both amateur and professionals. Both levels will be judged together. We are aware that some photographers are more experienced than others and will take that into consideration when judging. Although technical proficiency will be noted, we are looking for the passion of the photographer to show through in the photograph.
Subject Matter
The topic of the contest is "Our Community." Suggestions as to sub-categories to approach Our Community are:
People/Portraiture
Nature/Environmental
Animals
Misc
Judging
Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality, and effectiveness in conveying the purpose of the image.
Image Guidelines
Image Modifications
Minor digital enhancement is permitted, but images that have been significantly modified or appear unnatural will be disqualified.
Not Permitted:
• No borders or frames may be added to images.
• No watermarks, signatures, or copyright notices may be added to images.
• Adding or replacing elements in an image is not permitted.
Permitted Modifications:
• Images may be cropped and rotated as necessary as long as the rectangular format is maintained and the size is within the specifications above.
• Images may be resized as long as the aspect ratio is maintained
• Red-eye removal and spot editing
• Use of filters to sharpen, soften, blur, despeckle, or remove noise. Please do not over use these filters.
• Use of corrective functions to improve the natural appearance of the image, such as levels, contrast, brightness, curves, intensity, tone, hue, saturation, lightness, value, color balance, and tint.
Quality
Image quality will be considered on an individual basis but most cell phone photographs will not pass our minimum standard.
Submitting Prints
Submitting Deadlines
We will accept print submissions from the 1st -15th of each month. If your submission is late it will be disqualified. It will not be held over till the next month's contest. Prints are not returned.

Please include a Submission Form with your entry. Entries without the submission forms with not be accepted. No notice will be sent that your form was not submitted. Prints are not returned.

***GETTING MADE
Prints
Prints must be 4 x 6 inches or 5 x 7 inches. Do not send negatives. Attach a label to the back of each print with your name, address, email address and phone number. Do not write on the photo itself. Prints will not be returned.
Captions
All entries need a caption with the following information:
1) Date the image was taken.
2) Location where the image was taken including the city.
3) The name of every person in the photograph and their age if under 18 years old.
4) The name and contact information of the photographer.
5) What the photograph is about. This should all be no more than a few short paragraphs. We reserve the right to edit all captions for language and content.
Model Releases
Photos containing recognizable people must be accompanied by a signed model release. Children in the photo under the age of 18 years old will need a parent or guardian to sign the release.
Your submission of the photograph and model release is your guarantee that you legally acquired the model releases. Model releases that are not complete and correctly filled out and/or have had changes made to them will not be accepted.

Winners
Judges will select a winning photograph. Winners will be notified approximately 1-2 weeks after the contest deadline by phone or email using the information on the entry form. The winner photograph will be published in the Oquirrh Times newspaper the first week of the month and will be displayed on the Oquirrh Times website the entire winning month. The photographer's name, email address (optional), information about the photo and a short story about the photographer will accompany the winning photograph.

Oquirrh Times is not responsible for computer system, hardware, software, or program malfunctions or other errors, failures, or delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human or technical in nature. Furthermore, Oquirrh Times is not responsible for: (i) lost, misdirected, misplaced, illegible, unintelligible, incomplete, or late entries or (ii) any act, failure to act, or delay regarding the transmitting or processing of entries. Oquirrh Times reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend all or any portion of this contest without notice if factors beyond Oquirrh Times control, including technical difficulties, disrupt or corrupt the fair or secure administration or operation of the contest. Void where prohibited. Oquirrh Times is entitled to interpret these rules as needed and its decisions are final. Oquirrh Times reserves the right to disqualify any entrant that Oquirrh Times has reason to believe is not the original work of entrant, or does not otherwise meet the contest rules. If a winner is disqualified or determined to be ineligible, an alternate winner will be selected using the same judging process/criteria described above. Alternate winners are subject to all requirements set forth in these Official Rules.
By participating in the contest, you agree to release and hold harmless Oquirrh Times and its employees, officers, affiliates, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies from any and all damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind resulting from your participation in this contest, including infringement of intellectual property rights. Oquirrh Times and its employees, officers, affiliates, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies assume no responsibility or liability for any damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind arising in whole or in part from this contest.

By entering the contest you are acknowledging that you are over the age of 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident with a green card.
Photo Subject Restrictions
Photos must be appropriate for posting on a public website and newspaper. Obscene, provocative or otherwise questionable content will not be considered. Oquirrh Times retains sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content.
Judging
An Oquirrh Times panel will judge the entries. All contest decisions are final. Entries that fail to comply with the Official Contest Rules will be disqualified. The Oquirrh Times panel will include professionals in photography, graphic design, and marketing.
Photographer/Copyright
Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Do not submit a photo taken by someone other than yourself. You must be the sole owner of the copyright of any image submitted. If you have given copyright of the photograph to another person please do not submit it. Your submission of the photo and entry form is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photo.
Ownership/Use Rights
Photographers retain the copyright to their photographs. By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their submitted photograph displayed in the Oquirrh Times newspaper and on The Oquirrh Times website without any fee or other form of compensation, and agree that Oquirrh Times may display winning photos in a "past winners" photo gallery and on the Oquirrh Times newspaper and website, and may make and retain copies of the photograph for archival purposes. Posted photos will be subject to the Oquirrh Time Photo Use Policy, see below. Photos will be credited to the photographer named in the entry form. Entries will never be used by Oquirrh Times in any manner for advertising or sale. In the event that ownership of any photograph submitted to Oquirrh Times is contested in any manner, Oquirrh Times retains the discretion to disqualify that photograph and discontinue use of the photograph.
Content
We will not endorse any product or service. If there is a product or service in your photograph it must be in such a manner that we do not view it as an attempt to advertise. If we determine it is, or may be view as product or service endorsement, it will be disqualified. We will not accept any copyright infrindgement.
Oquirrah Time Photo Use Policy
Photos printed in the Oquirrh Times newspaper and displayed on the Oquirrh Times Website are copyrighted by the photographer.
Permission not is granted to use photos in any manner, personal or commercial.
Photos may not be altered in any way, including resizing or cropping.
Photos cannot be posted on the Internet on personal, commercial, or other sites, without explicit permission from the photographer.
Photos may not be sold or used in any way for profit or commercial purposes, including use in commercial or professional websites or printed materials.
