Getting OlderI think I was about 26 when I first started thinking about where I wanted to retire. Being from Scotland, I chose the Orkney Islands. For some reason I always thought it would be really cold there. I asked Siri last night and it was in the upper 40's! It was below freezing here in Salt Lake City, Utah. I don't enjoy the cold at all! When I was a child growing up in Scotland -this is going to make me sound like I'm from the ice age- we had one source of heat in the house: a fireplace downstairs. Of course it went out during the night and it was my job, along with my brother and sister, to get up in a cold house and start the fire. We began by cleaning out the ashes from the night before. Then we went outside to get some coal from the coal shed. We then folded old newspaper into special zig-zaggy shapes. We put the coal and paper in the fireplace, and lit the fire. It took a while and we froze the whole time. Then it took half the day to make just that one room warm! If you needed the loo...well...your tiny butt was going to turn blue before you could make it back to the fire and turn your bottom toward the flame to warm it up. My hubby and I have temp wars. In the summer I want to keep the AC at 78 and he wants it a lot colder! And in the winter, same thing. We are known for sneaking off down the hall pretending to need the loo, only to smoothly as possible, turn the temp gauge to what we want it. This drawing is me as a not so older than I am now lady with a scarf, sweater, long skirt and boots. I know I'm going to be cold for some reason. Maybe my croft on that tiny island will not have central heat, I don't know. But cold is in my head. And the HUGE hair? Well I've always had fine, thin hair, and darn it..I was some more! So I gave myself some.
